He would also dress in all black clothing, which added to his gothic presence. He was very tall in stature and had long black hair that hanged past his shoulder. Peter Steele’s appearance was just as dominating as his voice. He would growl his lyrics with a loud roar and often trill his vocals in a frightening tone. Lead singer, Peter Steele, had a voice that was highly terrifying to see live. The organ playing in the style of a funeral dirge would occasionally find its way into a song. Their sound was often presented in a very gothic tone. Guitarist, Kenny Hickey, was known for creating angular, atonal riffs that were hauntingly catchy. The guitar playing in their songs is very heavy and often sustained in a sludgy way. Type O Negative clearly harps on he style of Black Sabbath by taking a dark approach to their songwriting and delivery.
